THE QUINCENTENNIAL FOUNDATION MUSEUM OF TURKISH JEWS
HAS OPENED ITS DOORS TO VISITORS IN ITS NEW LOCATION
The Quincentennial Foundation Museum of Turkish Jews, with its updated contents and modern exhibition technologies is now in service in its new location at the Neve Şalom Synagogue compound.
The Quincentennial Foundation Museum Of Turkish Jews, which has been serving on Perçemli Street since 2001, was put into service as a museum within the framework of the celebration program of The Quincentennial Foundation, with the valuable contributions of the Kamhi family, and the suggestions and design of Naim A. Güleryüz.
Since December 2015, the museum welcomes its visitors in its new location, The Neve Shalom Synagogue, with its updated content and modern exhibition technologies.
Comprised of three sections, history and cultural heritage of Turkish Jews, their contributions to the social and governmental life are exhibited together with chronological information. Combining modern museum disciplines with technological advances, the new location houses displays of photographs and videos relating to traditions and origins, slices of Jewish life, objects used in religious rituals as well as various touch-screens located within the museum that provide detailed information to the visitors.
The glass partition that separates the Museum from Neve Şalom Synagogue enables the visitors who receive a taste of history from the museum, to witness the contemporary reflection of this in a religious service such as a wedding or a circumcision ceremony, if one happens to take place during their visit. Guests can also feel the presence of yesteryears’ magical hue close to them.
Together with a change of address, the Museum has become more interactive and alive. Film screenings, concerts of music with Judaic themes to be held each week on Thursdays and the innovations present in the children’s section are among activities that arouse interest.
A cafe in the museum that enables sampling of tastes from Sephardi cuisine during visiting hours continues to receive much praise from museum visitors.
