‘UNLIMITED’ EXHIBITION!

ŞELİ ABUT BENHABİB’S
‘UNLIMITED’ EXHIBITION
IN THE QUINCENTENNIAL FOUNDATION MUSEUM OF TURKISH JEWS
IN THE CONTEXT OF THE PARALLEL ACTIVITIES OF THE ISTANBUL BIENNIAL !

Şeli Abut Benhabib, who has previously made a big impression with her project ‘Art Everywhere‘ in 2012, will meet her visitors with her exhibition ‘Unlimited’, in The Quincentennial Foundation Museum Of Turkish Jews, in the context of the parallel activities of The Istanbul Biennial
The exhibition of Benhabib, who makes arrangements of objects upon paper, with a mixed technique and paint intervention in wooden boxes, will be open to visitors between 12 September - 10 November 2019.

The works of the artist, who collects waste pieces of daily use, mostly from the streets, constructions, old wearers and her own living spaces , exceed the two-dimensional reality of the canvas, coincide with the concept of ‘The Seventh Continent’ which is the subject of the Biennial this year.

“WE SHALL WORK TOGETHER FOR THE SAKE OF RECYCLING AWARENESS”

Şeli Abut Benhabib said : “I have fused the objects that I could not discard with some objects that are discarded. The thing that I intended to perform in this exhibition, and the subject that I have developed, manifest limitlessness, as a meaning, as whatever the main motive of a composition in music would be.

Benhabib said about the consumer society: “Today, people almost wear the same shoes and clothes all over the world; they listen to the same music and amuse themselves the same way. The children play with the same toys, watch the same cartoons, adopt the same heroes, which means that they live a uniform life style, there is an endless rush. Unfortunately, we have become a society that speaks and corresponds with short, quick-consuming sentences, which is in a constant struggle. The relationships established in the virtual world cause people to be abstracted from the society and individuals seek the way to overcome this in consumption. Therefore, the perception of a society where everything is based on consumption is becoming widespread ”. “We should work together to strengthen the awareness of recycling in society", the artist concluded.
