Photographer Rubi Asa has compiled her work documenting traces of Jewish life in Istanbul neighborhoods such as Hasköy, Balat, Galata, Kuledibi, Karaköy, Ortaköy, Kuzguncuk, Haydarpaşa Yeldeğirmeni, and the Princes' Islands into a book titled Footsteps.
Encouraged by Elio Medina and with contributions from Vladi Benbanaste, the project compiled hundreds of photographs, memories, and documents spanning the period from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic. Asa enriched these visuals with historical information, presenting a broad panorama ranging from synagogues to schools, institutions and associations to commercial establishments.
Published in Turkish and English by the Quincentennial Foundation, the work sheds light on Istanbul's cultural heritage and serves as a meaningful gift for visitors from abroad.
The book is available at the Quincentennial Foundation Museum of Turkish Jews.
