Description
"A Dream of Istanbul", demonstrates Turkey's urbanization experience within the framework of the interesting life of Aron Angel (1916-2010), who’s referred to as Turkey's first city planner, the architect of the Gezi Park, Macka Democracy Park, Lutfi Kirdar International Congress and Exhibition Palace and the Bagdat Street.
Aron Angel was an idealist who resigned without hesitation after the government allowed the construction of the Hilton Hotel, as it was damaging the green space of Istanbul. He was a veteran architect of his time, who started his career with the assistance of the famous urban planner Henri Prost, and had also studied architecture.
In the documentary film, directed by Perihan Bayraktar and edited by Thomas Balkenhol, famous city planners and architects (İlhan Tekeli, Tarik Sengul, Cana Bilsel, David Harvey, Pierre Pinon) evaluate the situation of the urban areas in Turkey, and especially of Istanbul.
